MITHI, Dec 23: Tharparkar District Council on Saturday demanded an inquiry into ‘theft of about 1.5 million bricks from a road and streets’ in Mubarak Rind village of Chhachhro taluka by local influential people.

Moving a resolution, Sher Mohammad Samejo pointed out that after the government approved the construction of a road in the village, some residents recently dismantled the old road and streets brick by brick. They had stored the stolen bricks for personal purpose, he added.

Participating in the debate on the resolution, Abdul Subhan, Arbab Abdul Malik and other members deplored the unique incident and demanded that the stolen bricks be recovered and used for the construction of the union council office building.

Giving ruling, convenor Abdul Karim Rahimoon assured the members that an inquiry would be conducted into the incident.

Tabling another resolution, Hemraj Bheel said that poor Tharis were being fleeced by the Munshis and their henchmen in the Mithi cattle market and no receipt of market fee was issued to those who bring cattle for sale.

Supporting the resolution, Guman Singh, Abdul Malik, Siddiq Dal, Ali Mohammad and Kirshan Lal said that malpractice in the cattle market should be stopped and the market fee should not be charged from cattle sellers but from the buyers.
