TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 22: The Punjab government has approved construction of three bridges over Haveli canal with an estimated cost of Rs36 million. District nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar on Friday told a gathering in Chak 693/35GB.
He claimed that the district government was judiciously spending funds in all union councils.
Union council nazim Chaudhry Sarwar also addressed.
The district nazim inaugurated a link road constructed between Leghari and Iqbal chowks and construction of the boundary wall of the government primary school in Chak 704/46 GB.
DCO Nawazish Ali was also present on the occasion.
TAX: Gojra City Police Station registered a case on Friday against a banned religious organisation activist on the charge of allegedly demanding a Rs1 million ‘jagga tax’ or protection money from Gojra Deputy District Officer (Health) Dr Rana Anwarul Haq.
Police said accused Irfan Ahmad, alias Phanna, demanded the money via phone and threatened with consequences on failure to meet the demand. A source said the accused from Chak 318 JB (Janiwala) was also involved in extorting protection money from various traders of Toba Tek Singh and Gojra.
REMAND: Arouti police on Friday got physical remand of an alleged killer of a taxi driver from a local judicial magistrate.
Accused Iftikhar was arrested by Sahiwal police in a dacoity murder case. During investigation, he confessed that he had killed driver Nawaz after driving away with his taxi.
