Punjab continue winning streak

LAHORE, Feb 17: Punjab and Balochistan registered second consecutive wins in the Inter-Provincial girls under-16 hockey championship at the National Hockey Stadium Sunday.

Defending champions Punjab defeated Sindh 3-0 while Balochistan beat NWFP 4-0.

Punjab defeated Sindh after a goalless first half. Centre-half Ayesha Bashir, full-back Musharaf Bano and outside- left Sabiha Mahmood shared the scoring honour for the winners.

Ayesha struck a field goal in the 38th minute. Five minutes later, Bano doubled the lead by scoring a field goal on solo effort. Punjab surged futher ahead when Sabiha scored in the 45th minute.

In the second match, Balochistan outplayed NWFP with full-back Mehnaz Raza scoring two goals. Centre-half Huma and outside-right Nazia Essa scored one goal each.

The Balochistan team led the first half by a close margin of 1-0 and added three field goals in the second session.

Huma drew first blood in the second minute through a field effort. Mehnaz struck her first goal in the 37th minute followed by a goal by Nazia in the 48th minute. Within three minutes, Mehnaz scored her second goal to make it 4-0.
