PESHAWAR, Dec 19: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Tuesday called on NWFP Governor Lt-Gen Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai at the Governor’s House and discussed the law and order situation in the province.

They expressed their deep sorrow at the assassination of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police for Bannu, Abid Ali, and his driver by unidentified gunmen at Mattani near Peshawar.

They also expressed their determination that murderers of Abid Ali and his driver would soon be arrested and brought to justice. The chief minister and the governor decided to pool up all their energies to arrest the murderers.

In this connection, all law-enforcement agencies would be fully supported to bring the case to its logical end, they said. While lauding the services rendered by DIG Abid Ali, they said the murder of Abid Ali had left a great void in the police department and it had been deprived of an intelligent, capable and courageous officer.

COMPENSATION: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has announced Rs5 million compensation for family members of slain DIG Abid Ali. He also announced one million rupees for the family of DIG’s driver.

The chief minister said that the family members of the slain DIG would also retain their official residence as well as conveyance facilities for the next 10 years. He said a member of the driver’s family would be given employment in the police department.—PPI
