HYDERABAD, Dec 18: The Jamshoro district coordination officer has directed the union council nazims of Kotri taluka to immediately submit reports about drinking water requirements of their union councils as the irrigation department has announced the closure of canals for repairs and maintenance from December 26 to January 10.

The DCO, Mohammad Khawar, issued the directive at a meeting of the union councils’ representatives in his office on Monday.

He asked the consumers not to waste water during the closure period.

He said that during the canal closure period, water would be supplied to the people of Kotri taluka through tankers. Therefore, he added, it was necessary to determine water requirements of the union councils to ensure uninterrupted supply to the consumers.

The nazim also directed the health department officials to conduct quality test of Indus River water in the wake of discharge into the river of saline water of the polluted Manchhar Lake.
