LAKKI MARWAT, Dec 17: District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan has called upon the Centre to allocate six per cent of GDP for education and equip colleges and universities with modern facilities.

He was speaking at a ceremony held for administrating the oath to student proctors at the Degree College Serai Naurang on Sunday.

Mr Saifullah said that rulers in the past did not pay heed to education due to which the nation could not make progress.

He said the district government was aware of the problems relating to the education sector in the district and resources were being utilised to remove such problems on a priority basis.

He called upon the teachers to concentrate on character building of students and impart quality education to them so that they could be able to face future challenges.

He said that the government had spent Rs6.2 million on the construction of a science block and additional classrooms in the college.

He said that the district government would make all out efforts to solve the problems of teachers and students.

He announced a grant of Rs30,000 for the college and promised that the Saifullah Foundation for Sustainable Development would award scholarships to meritorious students of the college.
