‘Sharifs still popular’

Published December 17, 2006

LAHORE, Dec 16: Local leaders of the PML-N held power-hungry elements responsible for the dismemberment of Pakistan on this day in 1971 and said lessons should be learnt from the tragedy to avert such a situation in the future.

They regretted that except for the PML-N, no other party had recalled the break-up of the country.

The party’s Lahore president Marghoob Ahmed presided over the meeting and the speakers included Naseer Ahmed Bhutta, Mehr Ishtiaq, Khwaja Imran Nazir, Khwaja Amer Raza and Dr Asif Saeed Kirmani.

They said the rulers were not taking measures necessary for the unity of the country. Instead, they alleged, the rulers were working according to the dictation coming from the United States.

They called for the transfer of power to the elected representatives of the country.

The PML-N leaders also reiterated their resolve to bring the exiled Sharifs back to Pakistan. —Staff Reporter
