PESHAWAR, Dec 15: Students of religious seminaries and members of Jamiat Talaba Arabia (JTA), an affiliate of Jamat-e-Islami, held a protest demonstration against the women’s rights act here on Friday and urged the provincial government not to allow its implementation in the province.

The demonstrators were carrying placards and banners and raising slogans against the act and the government.

They said the bill was violative of the Constitution which did not allow legislation against Quran and Sunnah, and that they would resist its implementation on all fronts.

Addressing the demonstrators outside the Peshawar Press Club, muntazim of JTA Mohammed Arif Dumar said the government got the women’s rights bill passed to appease the West and establish a 'sex-free society' in the country.

“Whosoever thinks that the act is in conformity with Quran and Sunnah should first implement it on his family members,” he said.
