MULTAN, Dec 14: The Punjab Teachers Union will hold a march in Lahore on Jan 10 to press for the acceptance of their demands.
This was decided by the union following a protest demonstration held here at Millat Model School on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, PTU south Punjab coordinator Rana Muhammad Aslam Saghar said the slogan of “Parha Likha Punjab” was a mere fraud. He said the government was wasting billions of rupees on projects of food for students, scholarships and free books while commission mafia and bureaucracy were misappropriating the funds.
He said the government was paying no heed to the demands of teachers.
Mr Saghar said a long march would be held in Lahore on Jan 10 from Data Darbar to Assembly Hall while protest demonstrations and rallies would be organised in different cities of country.
Abdul Tariq Niazi said on one hand the government was spending Rs500 million on the advertising campaign of “Parha Likha Punjab” while on the other hand, it was reluctant to give Rs500 as teaching allowance.
Malik Sajjad Akhtar Awan said the government was paying Rs2,000 allowance to a matriculate police constable, Rs15,000 to an SHO while it was not ready to pay allowance to a teacher.
Rana Dilshad Ali said monitoring of government schools by retired army men was actually mistrust on officers of education department.
