FAISALABAD, Dec 13: Two police constables were killed in an ‘encounter’ on Wednesday near Rehmay Shah, in the limits of Garh Police Station.

Police on a tip-off chased and tried to arrest wanted criminal Jahangir, alias Jango, and his four accomplices who were on a run after snatching a mobile phone from a villager. Seeing policemen, the criminal opened fire, killing constable Muhammad Nawaz instantly and injuring constable Liaqat, who later died in hospital.

The robbers fled and took shelter in nearby sugarcane fields and police was searching the fields for the criminals.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Aslam Tareen told Dawn that criminals had opened fire when police tried to arrest them. More police officials were sent to arrest the criminals.
