KARACHI, Dec 12: Habib Bank Limited (HBL) collected full nine points when they thrashed Wapda by 174 runs in the Patron’s Trophy Cricket Championship quadrangular round match at the NBP Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Paceman Fahad Masood captured four wickets for 40 runs, ex-Test all-rounder Azhar Mahmood claimed three for 76 and Shahid Afridi's replacement, Sajid Shah grabbed two for 33 as Wapda, needing an improbable 392 for victory, were dismissed for 214 in their second innings soon after lunch on the third day of their four-day match.

Bilal Khilji and night-watchman Shabbir Ahmed offered stiff resistance by putting on 58 for fifth wicket with both making 44.

Wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider and former Test leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed frustrated bank bowlers by adding 29 for the last wicket.

But Wapda’s innings folded on the first ball after lunch when pacer Fahad Masood trapped Zulqarnain leg before for 29.

All-rounder Shahid Afridi, who played a pivotal role in his team’s victory, pulled out of the match on Monday evening when he was asked to join the Pakistan team for the fourth one-dayer against West Indies in Multan.
