JHANG, Dec 10: Police claimed to have arrested a gang of thugs, who deprived the people of their money by enticing them to double it.

Police also seized currency notes of Pakistan, Turkey, Bangladesh and Italy, a machine to publish fake currency notes, chemical used in the machine for publishing the currency and four cell phones from them.

Jhang District Police Officer Amjad Javed Saleemi told reporters in a press conference on Sunday that five accused — Tanvir Akhtar and Ashiq from Vehari; Ghulam Rasool and Ali Sher from Toba Tek Singh and Zafar Iqbal from Sahiwal — rented a car from Tibba Sultanpur in Vehari and arrived in the Mochiwala area of Jhang, where Raiz from Chak No 459 GB, Mochiwala, also joined them.

The gang planned to rob a farmer by offering him to double his money. As they were awaiting their victim near Khoi Bus Stop, a police patrol team of the Banglo Noul Patrolling Post arrived there and searched the car. Police seized the fake currency and other manufacturing tools from the car.

Police handed over the alleged gangsters to Mochiwala Police Station. The accused confessed to extorting money from the people.
