Indonesia stripped of bronze medal

DOHA, Dec 9: Indonesia has been stripped of its equestrian eventing bronze medal for using illegal spurs, with India being promoted to third, equestrian officials said Saturday.

Andy Griffiths, the technical delegate for equestrian eventing, said a protest was lodged by India's German equestrian eventing chief Ralf Ehrenbrink against Andry Prasetyono and horse Aswatama Sportzgirl.

“After a full investigation the president and the members of the ground jury decided that the rider ... had competed with spurs not allowed and they had no option but to eliminate this competitor from the competition,” said Griffiths.

“According to the above-mentioned decision the results of equestrian eventing are amended accordingly and the bronze medal goes to India.”Qatar won the gold and Japan finished second.—AFP
