ISLAMABAD, Dec 9: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said the government will maintain the momentum of legislation against anti-women practices.

Talking to PML president Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain at the PM’s House on Saturday, the prime minister said that the government would continue its support to the passage of various laws aimed at giving women their due role in society.

He said that the PML government and its allies had over the years introduced a number of legal reforms to safeguard the rights of women and they would continue to take necessary measures to empower women.

The prime minister said the government had given adequate representation to women in national and provincial legislatures as well as in local councils.

The two leaders appreciated the development package announced by President General Pervez Musharraf for Balochistan on Friday.

“Balochistan is rich in natural resources and development projects initiated by the government are improving people’s quality of life,” he said.

They also discussed the organisational matters of the PML and its enrolment drive.

Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain apprised the prime minister of the steps being taken to make the PML a vibrant and dynamic organisation so that it could confidently contest the next elections.

The PML leader also discussed the new bill presented by him to the National Assembly speaker.
