ISLAMABAD, Dec 8: President General Pervez Musharraf on Friday promulgated an ordinance for setting up the Intellectual Property Rights Organisation.

The Trade Marks Registry, Copyright Office and the Patent Office will become part of the organisation and merged into it.

The autonomous organisation, meant to protect intellectual property rights (IPRs) in the country, will function under the administrative control of the cabinet division.

The organisation will administer and coordinate all government systems for the protection and strengthening of intellectual property rights and prepare a plan for development and upgradation of intellectual property infrastructure.

It will initiate and monitor the enforcement and protection of intellectual property rights through designated law-enforcement agencies and collect related data and information.
