TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 8: A police party opened fire on a pickup on Thursday night when its driver ignored their signal to stop as a result of which one of the nine passengers suffered injuries.

According to police, a pick-up (QAB-331) was carrying two animals on Shorkot Road. When it reached Tower Chowk, policemen on duty signaled it to stop but the driver drove away speedily.

The police party, led by Inspector Bashir Ahmad, followed the pick-up. When the driver paid no heed to them, the police wagon driver started hitting it as a result of which both the vehicles were badly damaged.

Police claimed that the pick-up went out of order and the nine people traveling in it started firing on them on Toba-Kamalia Road near the district council complex. Police returned the fire as a result of which Shah Nawaz of Chak 148-GB was seriously injured and was admitted to DHQ hospital.

Police could arrest Imran while the other seven managed to escape. City police have registered a case.

They claimed that the injured and his arrested accomplice were members of an inter-district cattle lifters gang and were coming after stealing two cattle from the Chuttiana area.
