KOHAT, Dec 6: A woman and a man were allegedly murdered on Tuesday in the name of honour in Chorlakki village, officials and witnesses said on Wednesday. Resham Jan lodged an FIR and accused Shah Behram, Saifullah and Javed Ali of murdering Mohammad Humayun and Ms T. The police have arrested one of the accused, Shah Behram.

A police officer quoted her in-laws as saying that Ms T, a widow and mother of a nine-year-old girl, had allegedly developed illicit relations with one Mohammad Humayun.

Ms T’s in-laws, he said, wanted her to marry her deceased husband’s brother. But she refused to comply with their demands. Her husband had died after a protracted illness.

The in-laws alleged that she was refusing because she wanted to marry Humayun, a close relative. Humayun, 46, was already married and had three children. Ms T was 30 years old.

He said that the woman’s in-laws had brought their case before jirgas several times in a bid to force her to marry her ex-husband’s brother and maligning her character by repeatedly asking the local elders to tell her “not to meet Humayun”.

“The woman and the man were killed by the brother of the woman’s ex-husband on Tuesday. The man in custody claimed that he (the brother) had done it to save his family’s honour,” he said.

The police suspected that both were killed separately and later brought to one of the crime scenes to prove that they had illicit relations.
