KARACHI, Dec 5: The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) on Tuesday took out a protest rally against the alleged illegal demolition of fishermen’s settlements in Chashma Goth of the city.

Led by PFF Chairman Mohammad Ali Shah and Senior Vice-Chairperson Tahira Ali Shah, participants of the rally raised slogans against the authorities concerned and strongly condemned the action.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the demolition of their houses, the angry protesters, including women and children, marched on the streets towards Korangi fish harbour.

After a three-kilometre march, they staged a sit-in in front of the harbour gate. The sit-in disrupted vehicular traffic for about an hour.

Later, Managing Director of the harbour Mr Munir Chachar held talks with the representatives of the protesters and assured them of all possible help.

He was informed that their houses had been razed without issuance of a notice in advance. The aggrieved fishermen told him that the land which the harbour authorities claimed as the Korangi fish harbour property was their ancestral land.—PPI
