PESHAWAR, Dec 3: Senior women lawyers while welcoming the women’s rights bill said on Sunday that the bill was a significant step towards amelioration of women and would have a positive impact on their lives in future.
“I welcome the bill as it would help in reforming society and curb the `zina’ offences against women,” Farhana Marwat, senior advocate of the Peshawar High Court, told APP.
She said that if somebody falsely accused any other, the law would take its course against such person and bring the accuser under the clutches of law.
The process of acquittal on the basis of lack of evidence in zina fornication cases would end and crime rates in zina offences would be controlled, she added.
In reply to a question, Ms Marwat said that in the bill there was nothing repugnant against the injunctions of Quran and Sunnah. “We need to educate people about the bill as it was misinterpreted and misread.”
Another advocate Sakeena Fida said the bill would restore the dignity of women and ensure their rights and status in the society. She underscored the need for fully implementation of the bill.
