Punjab thrash NWFP

LAHORE, Feb 16: Punjab thrashed NWFP 17-0 and Balochistan beat Sindh 2-1 on opening day of the Inter-Provincial Under- 16 girls hockey championships at the National Hockey Stadium Saturday.

Four goals by outside-right Rabia, three goals each by inside- left Sabiha, inside-right Ayesha and centre-forward Neelma helped Punjab to beat NWFP with a plethora of goals. Centre-half Musharaf (45th minute), striker Shumaila Naz (4th minute), outside-left Shumaila (49th minute) and left-half Fozia (14th minute) added one goal each. Half time score was 7-0.

Rabia scored goals in the 19th, 52nd, 54th and 58th minute. Sabia in the 32nd, 46th and the 57th minute. Neelma struck in the 8th, 33rd and 59th minute while Aysha found the net in the 2nd, 11th and 26th minute.

Balochistan stunned Sindh after leading the first half 2-0.

Centre-forward Nargis (17th minute) and outside-right Masooma (28th minute) were the scorers for the winners.

For the losers, outside-right Sameera scored the consolation in the 41st minute.
