Farhan excels in STA tennis

KARACHI, Dec 2: Farhan Riaz overcame a stiff challenge from Abbas Raza on his way to register victory in three sets in the only men’s singles match of STA development tennis series which got underway at the CDGK sports complex on Saturday.

Farhan was home 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to cruise into the next round.

Omer Hasan accounted for Hyderabad’s Zubaid Gul 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the other interesting match of boys U-13.

According to draws, Yasir Khan has been top seeded in the men’s singles followed by Danish Ahmed, Nasir Mushtaq and Rizwan Shamsi.

The competition has attracted six players from Hyderabad besides the locals. Four of them namely Abdul Majeed, Zubaid Gul, Asif Bachani and Anas Khan have reached while Rafi Darbari and Shabbir Gul are due to reach on Sunday morning. Baloch brothers- Saad and Samad are not competing due to pre-occupation.

Only four ladies have entered in the contest which has left much to be desired.

Men’s singles:

Farhan Riaz bt Syed Abbas Raza 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Juniors’ singles:

Asif Bachani bt Abdullah Asgher 6-2, 6-3, Hashim Khan bt Abdul Rehman 6-0, 6-2.

Boys U-15 singles:

Ibrahim Tawwab bt Ashad 6-1, 6-4, Hashim Khan bt Saadur Rehman 6-1, 6-1, Abdul Rehman bt Shimran 6-1, 6-2.

Boys U-13 singles:

Abdul Rehman bt Imran Mooraj 6-1, 6-3, Omer Usman bt Zubaid Gul 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, Arif Khan bt Uzair A. Qadir 6-2, 6-4, Nameer Shamsi w/o Basit Gul.

Boys U-11 singles:

Khwaja Hamza bt Ali Mooraj 6-0, 6-0, Hamza bin Asif bt Ahmed Hasan 6-2, 6-2.

Boys U-9 singles:

Imran Mooraj bt Talha Zubair 6-4, 6-4.
