KARACHI, Dec 1: Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil has said social organisations and media can play important role in creating awareness among people to control Aids.

She was addressing an anti-AIDS walk taken out in connection with the World Aids Day on Friday. The walk was organised by Sindh Aids Control Programme in coordination with various NGOs.

The walk that started from Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town office and ended at the main gate of Expo Centre was participated among others by Secretary Health Prof (Dr) Naushad Shaikh, Additional Secretary Health Dr Majid, Sindh AIDS Control Programme Manager Dr Arshad Mahmood, Dr S.J.H. Shah of Pakistan Homoeopathic Physicians Society, Naib Nazim and TMO Gulshan Town, representatives of NGOs besides a large number of students and scouts.

Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil said AIDS was a social and economic curse and people fell victim to it because of ignorance and carelessness. She said all preventive measures must be adopted for protection against this deadly disease.

Participants of the walk were informed that till September, out of 3,591 AIDS patients in the country 1,695 were registered in Sindh.—APP
