Man killed in police ‘encounter’

KHAIRPUR, Feb 16: One person was killed here on Saturday in a police encounter.

Three armed men opened fire on two police constables, who were returning from their duty, on the National Highway near Takri bus stop. The police constables, Ghulam Rasool Shar and Ali Sher Shar, also returned the fire. A mobile patrol police also reached there on hearing the firing. In the encounter, Abdul Wahad alias Babal, son of Sher Mohammad, who had reportedly come there to rob along with his two accomplices, was killed.

Police constable Ghulam Rasool Shar has registered an FIR at the Kot Diji police station.

VISIT: The caretaker Nazim, Khairpur district, Sher Mohammad Phulpoto, along with education officer, conducted surprise visit of the Government Comprehensive High School, Khairpur, and Government High School, Thari.

He expressed satisfaction over the performance of the schools and announced Rs10,000 for furniture of the schools.

PROTEST: A large number of Shar tribesmen marched along with their minor girls against the kidnapping of two students Shakeel Ahmed and Shafique Ahmed Shar on Friday in village Mubarak Shar, Kingri taluka.

The police have so far taken no action for the release of the hostages.
