PESHAWAR, Feb 16: A Farm Services Centre is being established at district Chitral with a view to boosting the agriculture sector development based on community (farmers’) participation in the decision-making and using the government resources meant for the sector in keeping with the farmers’ wishes.

The farmers of the area are the members of FSC who would soon elect their representatives to different offices who would be responsible for using all related equipment and other resources for the betterment of farmers.

In this connection, a joint meeting of the agriculture department’s officers and farmers of the area was held at Booni, attended by elected representatives of tehsil and union councils, besides related staff of AKRSP.

The Farm Services Centre would have at least 2,000 members while at present it has 1,388. The participants on this occasion were told that under the devolution plan, it had been resolved to hand over all the decision-making powers to the public concerned and create unity amongst the farmers to speed agricultural development.

Through this system, the production and quality of agricultural products would be improved which, in turn, improve the socio-economic condition of farmers.

The farmers were informed about the role played by different sectors of agriculture department.

It may be mentioned that the agriculture department had arranged a series of such meetings with farmers of 24 union councils of district Chitral.
