Yousuf eyes big medal haul in Asiad

KARACHI, Nov 29: Snooker celebrity Mohammad Yousuf has expressed optimism of bringing more laurels to the nation in the 15th Asian Games which begins at Doha from Dec 1.

‘I’m in a good nick after crowning the World Masters title at Amman and am confident of doing the country proud,’ the former World Amateur champion told Dawn on the eve of departure.

A total of seven golds are at stake in the baize competition. These include three in snooker – singles, doubles, team event; two in billiards – singles, doubles and one each in ball pool singles.

A 15-member Pakistan snooker squad is due to fly to Doha on Thursday to feature in the Asiad.Team:

Snooker: Mohammad Yousuf, Khurram Agha, Shaukat Ali, Naveen Perwani. Billiards: Farhan Mirza, Imran Shahzad, Sohail Shahzad, Vishan Gir. 8ball/9ball pool: Meesam Zaidi, Irfan Tipu, Rambel Gul, Salman Sheikh.

Officials: Wahid Qadir (delegate), Alamgir Shaikh (manager) Qazi Laeeq (official).
