LAHORE, Nov 29: Health card will be compulsory for food handlers working at any eatery in the city, decides the City District Government of Lahore.

Chairing weekly progress review meeting here on Wednesday, District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood said the CDGL hospitals would issue the cards free of cost while private clinics would be asked to charge a nominal fee for the purpose.

The card would be valid for six months as even daily-wagers would have to get the same, he added.

The nazim sought a survey of the service stations for charging them commercial fee as they were choking sewerage system of the city. Wasa and solid waste management officials were deputed for conducting the survey.

He directed EDO (revenue) Malik Muhammad Bakhsh and LDA authorities to find land for establishment of education centres for special children in five towns — Wagah, Aziz Bhatti, Shalimar, Nishtar and Ravi.

Interestingly, furniture and other paraphernalia for the centres have already been purchased. Funds for these are being provided by the provincial government.

The EDO (community development) was asked to take over an ex-MCL school in Ali Park, Fort Road, as the CDGL had terminated its agreement with the NGO presently running the institution. He was also directed to shift the Government Central High School for Deaf to Canal Park, Gulberg.
