Death for killer

KASUR, Nov 29: An additional district and sessions judge convicted a man and acquitted two others here on Wednesday. The court sentenced convict Zafar Iqbal to death along with Rs50,000 fine while acquitted his co-accused Sardar and Amjad.

According to prosecution, they forcibly entered the house of Maqbool Ahmad at Sarhalee Kalan village under the influence of liquor and shot him dead two years ago.

SMUGGLER HELD: Pakistan Rangers claimed to have arrested an alleged smuggler after an encounter and recovered 121 bottles of liquor from his custody here on Wednesday.

According to Sutlej Rangers Inspector Abbas Bhatti some smugglers were trying to cross into Pakistani territory illegally when Rangers intercepted them. They opened fire on Rangers which was retaliated. After an encounter one of the smugglers was arrested who was later identified as Ghulam Mustafa. However, his four accomplices made good their escape.

Kasur Saddar police have registered a case.

SMOKING CONTROL: Kasur DCO Saeed Akhtar Ansari on Wednesday constituted a six-member committee to check smoking. Headed by himself, the committee would comprise EDOs of revenue, legal and health, district information officer and Kasur TMO.

It would monitor and ensure the restriction on smoking in offices, public transport and other public places.
