LAHORE, Nov 27: Chuhng police on Monday `killed’ a member of dacoits’ gang while his accomplices managed to escape after an encounter. On a tip-off that members of Ghattha gang involved in murder and dacoity bids were present at Khaliqabad near EME Colony on Multan Road, a police team led by the Chuhng SHO raided the place.

The culprits opened fire on the team which was retaliated as a result of which one of them died while his accomplices managed to escape.

An ID card recovered from the pocket of the dead man was found to be fake. Police later identified him as Sakhawat alias Gogi from Chuhng, wanted in more than a dozen cases of murder, kidnap and dacoity.

ARRESTED: Punjab police claimed to have arrested 968 proclaimed offenders and 977 court absconders and recovered a large number of illegal weapons from their possession during last two days.—Reporter
