PESHAWAR, Nov 25: Women parliamentarians of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) on Saturday said at a procession against the Protection of Women bill that they would challenge what they claimed imposition of un-Islamic laws in the Supreme Court in a week.

JUI-F women lawmakers from the national and NWFP assemblies called upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf not to sign the bill, threatening otherwise he would have to face women’s countrywide protests.

MNAs Shahida Akhtar Ali and Farhana Binori and MPA Naeema Kishwar led the procession that started from outside the Governor's House and ended in front of the Peshawar Press Club.

JUI-F activists were among the participants who were holding banners and placards inscribed with "No to western culture”, "No to Women’s Protection Bill" and "Yes to Hasba Bill.”

Speaking at the end of the procession, MPA Ali said that Hudood and Tazeer were separate but inter-related matters. By separating Hudood and Tazeer, she said, the government had enacted un-Islamic laws, which the MMA would never accept and bring women on roads against it.
