LAHORE, Nov 22: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has condemned the freezing of bank accounts of two granddaughters of late Nawab Akbar Bugti by the State Bank as the latest move in a series of outrageous actions aimed at victimizing women.

HRCP Chairperson Asma Jehangir said in a statement that the interior ministry, which believed the daughters of Rehan Bugti — Zamour Domki and Zawazboh — had links with the Balochistan Liberation Army, should adopt the usual judicial process if it suspected the women were involved in any objectionable activity.

She said that the Bugti sisters must never be made to pay for anything their male relatives were accused of as such actions amounted to a terrible outrage by the state against women whose rights the rulers claimed to defend.

She demanded immediate release of all the women held in jails on the basis of relationships with men accused of involvement in any crime.

Ms Jehangir said that the commission had met at least five such women, including Shazia, a young woman held with her three-year old son in Adiala jail.
