Sailors win bronze in Bahrain

KARACHI, Nov 22: The Doha-bound Pakistan Match Racing sailing squad clinched a bronze in international J-24 Match Race regatta held at Bahrain recently.

The team which comprised of Mamoon Sadiq, Zahid Rauf, Hameed Baloch and Amir Nawaz returned home on Tuesday after a two-week training tour of Bahrain and Dubai.

In the second leg, the Pakistani sailors underwent strenuous training in the actual boat in Dubai for a week.

Cdr (retd) Navaid Usmani, secretary, Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSAF), who accompanied the team as manager termed the trip as ‘beneficial’ as the nation was eyeing a medal in Match Racing at the Doha Asian Games.

Another batch of five sailors – two Optimist and one each of 2.7, Laser Standard and Laser Radial has gone to Kuwait and will be back on Saturday.

According to PSAF official, Pakistan sailing team is due to fly to Doha on Nov 29.
