LAHORE, Nov 22: Five-goal Amanat steered Rangers to a commendable 6-5 win over Cherat Cement in the Future Concern polo cup here on Thursday.

Rangers dominated first chukker 3-1 as Amanat scored two goals after Cherats' Jamal Mamdot drew the first blood.

In dying minutes Tariq Hasim scored a goal for the winners.

Rangers upheld the lead (4-2) as Amanat scored his third.

Cherat scored one through seasoned Shah Qubilai Alam, who scored three in the match.

Cherat staged a gallant comeback in the third chukker scoring all three goals to gain a slim 5-4 lead for the first time. Qubilai scored two while Jamal Mamdot one.

But all credit went to beleaguered Amanat, who first scored his fourth to make it 5-5 at the end of the fourth chukker, before scoring the winner in the extra chukker on a field attempt.

Three goals by Asif Tiwana helped Red Mountains beat Nurpur 6 ½ - 5 in another thrilling match.

Nurpur made a flying start by earning 3 - 1 ½ lead in the first chukker. Ahmed Zubair, who scored three goals in the match, struck his first while Moin Yaqub and Omar Niazi added one each.

For the winners, who had half-goal handicap, the solitary goal came through Qadeer Ashfaq.

Red Mountains took a slender 3 ½ - 3 lead in the second chukker as Hassan Ali Farrukh scored one while Asif opened his account.

Accelerating the pace of the attack, the winners earned two more goals in the third chukker taking 5 ½ - 3 lead as Asif and Qadeer scored their second.

Nurpur tried to make a match of it in the fourth chukker when Ahmed Zubair scored back-to-back goals to reduce the lead 5 ½ - 5, before Asif struck his final goal for the winners to seal the fate of the match.

In a one-sided match, three-goal Ali Hashim Rizvi and two-goal Ashfaq enabled Harvesters crush Sherwood 6-2. Sameer Habib Oberoi scored one for the winners.
