PESHAWAR, Oct 18: Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam group) has condemned the US and their allies attacks on Afghanistan and also condemned the Pakistan act of providing them bases against Afghanistan.

Speaking at a “Meet the Press” programme here at the Press club on Thursday, the NWFP president of the party, Salim Saifullah condemned the US and their allies for their continuous air strikes and demanded immediate halt to it.

He also criticized the act of providing them air bases by the Pakistan government and termed it unjust.

The president asked for a consultative council and said this council should include personalities like Ghulam Ishaq Khan, who played important role during the USSR aggressing on Afghanistan and Aslam Khattak etc.

He said the government should consult with such people before making any decision about the interest of the country.

The PML leader backed the government policy about supporting the US war against terrorism and said this was the best possible solution within provided options.

He also criticized the Ulema point of view and asked them to stop their protest demonstration as, according to him, this was weakening Pakistan’s position which would ultimately go against the interests of Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan was passing the most critical time of its history and any unwise decision could harm the solidarity of the country. He asked the religious leaders to control their emotions and make Pakistan as their first priority.

Talking about the solution of the problem of Afghanistan he supported the jirga option and said that all the ethnic groups should make a Jirga and solve their problems themselves.

Salim Saifullah Khan asked all the warring factions of Afghanistan to stop their infighting if not for yourself, for the interests of Pakistan and the NWFP, adding that the economy of this region had been affected due to war in Afghanistan.—PPI
