LAHORE, Nov 18: University of Engineering Science and Technology (UEST) will initially house six major schools.

The schools which include Chemical Engineering and Bio technology, Civil Engineering and GEO-Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering.

The new varsity will initially have 250 students in five different engineering programmes to begin in October 2008.

According to the plan, in a span of ten years the varsity will gradually expand to its full capacity of about 6,000 students, including some 400 PhD scholars.

The administration and academics will gradually shift to local management.

An essential part of each UEST will be establishment of a technology park and business incubation centre. These facilities will help enable the varsity graduates to get rapid employment.

The academics of each UEST will be mainly managed by the staff from the collaborating varsities for the first 8-10 years.

These varsities will be fully funded by the government.

The HEC is in the forefront in developing and implementing the project. —APP
