KARACHI, Nov 15: The ban on pillion riding came into force on Wednesday. It will remain in force for the next 15 days, and is being widely seen as part of the security concerns for Ideas 2006.

It was on July 15, 2000, when a previous ban on pillion riding was lifted at a time when the city had been experiencing serious law and order situation.

The ban on pillion riding has been imposed primarily to curb street crimes, asserted acting city police chief Tariq Jamil, refuting the impression that the ban had been imposed to facilitate Ideas-2006 as the timing of the ban coincided with the Defense exhibition.

“So far, we have not received any intelligence report suggesting possible terrorist attack in the city, but by and enlarge the security has been beefed up in the city in view of such a big event”, Mr Jamil said.
