PARACHINAR, Nov 14: The political administration closed for an indefinite period the Degree College in Parachinar in Kurram Agency on Tuesday following day-long riots on Monday, officials said.

A press note issued by Political Agent Muhammad Saleem Khan here said that students had been asked to vacate hostels and paramilitary troops had been deployed in the college.

However, students continued their protest on Tuesday and held demonstration in Parachinar, the administrative headquarters of the agency near Afghan border.

They demanded of the government not to shift the site of the proposed medical college from Kurram Agency to another part of the Federally-Administered Tribal Area (Fata). They also raised slogans against the administration.

Security had been tightened in the town and troops of Kurram Militia deployed at government installations and other sensitive points.

The press note said that action would be taken against the rioters. But no arrest had been made so far. It said that several Levy personnel were wounded during clashes with the protesters.
