KOHAT, Nov 14: The Kohat district council approved allocation of equal funds to the 32 urban and rural union councils under the annual development programme and passed 11 resolutions on Tuesday.

During the monthly session presided over by convener Arif advocate, the nazims agreed that each union council would get Rs3,83,000 as development fund, which would be spent by the respective nazims in consultation with the councillors.

Speaking on the occasion, the UC nazims presented reports about ongoing and completed development schemes in their constituencies, in education, communication, gas and electricity sectors.

The proposals of the house to tax export of gypsum and coal from the district and to place the income from all resources in account were unanimously approved by the house.

Dr Tehseen, nazim union council Jarma, demanded that the occupants of the government land be given allotment orders as promised by the chief minister and requested the provincial government to remove all compulsions related to transfer of property.

He informed the house that the present occupants who had bought land on stamp papers from the old owners on the expiry of lease in 1973 were ready to buy the land at market rates.

Shakeel Haider nazim of Gumbat complained about the absence of medical staff in the rural health centre and demanded immediate transfer of doctors who were, according to him, running their private clinics during office hours.

Shahpur nazim Mohammad Iqbal while expressing grief over the incidents of drowning in the Tanda Lake demanded strict ban on swimming in it to save precious lives. On another point he asked the district nazim to ask the department concerned to provide gas from local oil and gas fields to his constituency.

He informed the house that the main gas pipeline from Kohat to Hangu passes at a short distance from the area and the facility could be provided quite easily to the locality.

District nazim Gohar Saifullah termed his demand valid and promised to put up the issue before the federal minister for petroleum during his expected visit of Kohat.

The nazims through unanimous resolutions demanded grade - 9 for PTC teachers, establishment of utility stores at the union council level, action on the old and new resolutions and exemption of fee on the Fort Cricket Ground for sports purpose by the army. They also asked the heads of departments to ensure their presence during the district council sessions.

The convener in his ruling termed all the resolutions as valid demands and declared them as unanimously accepted.
