UHS postpones exam of dental institute

ISLAMABAD, Nov 13: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Monday postponed the Bachelor of Dental Sciences (BDS) first professional examination (revised scheme) for students of Margalla Institute of Health Sciences, Rawalpindi, because of over-enrolment by the institute.

The examination, commencing from Tuesday (today), would be held as per schedule at other centres through Punjab.

University of Health Sciences, Lahore, regulates and coordinates the activities of medical education, training and research institutions throughout Punjab.

A UHS official told Dawn that Margalla Institute of Health Sciences, an institute provisionally affiliated with the university, had been permitted to enrol only 25 students.

However, the institute, which offers under-graduate programmes in dental sciences, exceeded the limit and enrolled 52 students.

The official said the institution had been asked a number of times to rectify the anomaly, but to no avail. “It was decided to postpone the exam to prevent any loss to the students, who had been enrolled beyond the authorised strength by the institution,” he maintained.

The university administration has prepared and submitted a case to the Board of Governors for further action in the case.
