KARACHI, Nov 11: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said that the Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) would be made a model industrial estate of Karachi.

For the very purpose, he added, a huge development programme worth Rs8 billion had already been started in the area including construction of road network and laying of sewerage and water supply lines.

He stated this while talking to a delegation of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), led by its chairman Masood Naqi who called on him at his office here on Saturday.

Briefing the delegation about the ongoing development works in KIA, the city nazim informed that construction work of roads would soon be completed while repair work of Jam Sadiq Bridge had been initiated at a cost of Rs25million.

The sewerage lines were being laid in the area as per the requirements of the industries on modern lines, which would be sufficient for the next 30 years, he informed.

Mr Kamal said that a summary for allotment of land for the construction of a mosque in KIA had already been forwarded to the Sindh chief minister for approval.

Chairman KATI Masood Naqi thanked the City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal for taking personal interest in the uplift works in KIA.

He drew the attention of the city nazim towards the dilapidated conditions of internal roads and streets of different sectors of the KIA, saying criminals by taking advantage of the poor condition of roads, had increased their activities in the area. Consequently, street crimes were increasing day by day in the area, added.

Mr Naqi also requested him to issue orders for removal of encroachments along Singer and Murtaza roundabouts, which was hampering the smooth flow of traffic.

He stressed the need for preparing GIS map of utilities of Korangi Industrial Area and assured full cooperation of the association in this regard.

He also pointed out others problems being faced by the industrialist and workers of the Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) and requested the city nazim to issue directives in this regard.
