ISLAMABAD, Nov 10: A high-level inter-ministerial meeting has been convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Saturday to review and finalise preparations for the peace dialogue with India next week.

“An inter-ministerial meeting will be held at the Foreign Ministry on Saturday to tie up loose ends and finalise the strategy for the foreign secretary-level talks as our delegation would be leaving on Monday,” a Foreign Ministry source told Dawn.

The foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India will meet in Delhi on November 14-15 to review the third round of the composite dialogue and prepare a roadmap for future engagement.

Foreign secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan will be leading a nine-member delegation to Delhi to discuss with his Indian counterpart the vital issues of peace and security as well as Jammu and Kashmir.

The delegation will comprise senior foreign ministry officials including additional secretary (Asia Pacific) M. Akhtar Tufail, additional secretary (UN) Tariq Osman Hyder, director-general (South Asia Division) Jalil Abbas Jilani, spokesperson and director-general (UN) Tasnim Aslam. Director (Kashmir Affairs) Mariam Aftab, director (India) Irfan Ahmad and director (Foreign Secretary’s Office) Moin ul Haq will also be part of the team.

The upcoming meeting acquires special significance as it will mark the formal resumption of the composite dialogue process stalled by the July 11 Mumbai blasts.

It will be the first meeting after the appointment of Shivshankar Menon, formerly India’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, as the country’s new foreign secretary and Pranab Mukherjee as the new External Affairs Minister.
