GUJRANWALA, Nov 9: A wagon driver and conductor were shot dead on resistance by motorcyclists during a robbery bid at Aujala Kalan Canal in Ghakkhar area on Thursday. Reports reaching here said that the wagon was on its way to the vegetable market, Gujranwala, from Kot Inayat Khan village when two outlaws stopped the vehicle after parking their bike on the road and tried to loot driver Mansha and conductor Asif. On offering resistance, armed robbers shot and killed both of them on the spot. Later, they escaped leaving behind cloth sheets and their motorcycle (LOB-6571).
It was stated that the robbers-cum-killers had set up a picket there and looted several passersby.
Ghakkhar Town SHO Abdul Hamid and Wazirabad SDPO reached the spot and removed bodies of the deceased to Wazirabad THQ Hospital for autopsy.
A case has been registered against the accused.
SPRAY: City district nazim Chaudhry Fiaz Ahmad Chattha on Thursday ordered all town and union council nazims in the district to carry out fumigation every third day for the eradication of mosquitoes to stop the spread of dengue fever.
He asked the EDO (health) and other senior officers of the health and agricultural departments to adopt precautionary measures to check the epidemic.
UNUTILISED: At least Rs370 million funds of the citizen community boards could not be used so far by the city district government.
EDO (community development) Mian Naeem Akhter at a meeting held here on Thursday pointed out that around 600 boards had been registered in the district while Rs40 million were allocated for its development projects.
He revealed that development schemes worth Rs190 million were in the final stage of approval. He suggested that citizens should construct their development projects under community boards instead of looking at government functionaries.
