SHEIKHUPURA, Nov 7: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday suspended from service the Farooqabad Sadar DSP and an inspector for not arresting the killers of seven members of a family in Ganjiana village.

According to a handout issued here, the chief minister suspended DSP Mohammad Yar and inspector Farhan Ahmad from service and regretted over the killing, announcing that peace committees had been constituted to effect rapprochement among families having old enmities.

He said the government would make all DPOs and DCOs maintain a close liaison with people and play an active role in the elimination of crimes. Local notables and ulema should also play their role in ending local feuds, he said.

The chief minister said he would conduct surprise visits in the province on a regular basis so as to get the first-hand information about crime. Performance of the police and other departments concerned would be closely monitored.

He said the police had been given additional manpower, transport and weapons, and now the government would get the desired results from them. The police must treat people decently and redress all complaints relating to non-registration of FIRs.

Protecting the life and property of people was the first priority of the government. A social audit system had been devised to improve working of the police, and those found dereliction of duty would not be tolerated. Qaiser Bhatti of the victim family informed the chief minister about the incident.

The chief minister also offered condolence for the victims.

ANOTHER CASE: Sheikhupura range DIG Muhammad Anwar Virk on Tuesday visited the Bhekhi police station and suspended SHO Khalid Imran, inspector Arshad Sahi, four sub-inspectors, two ASIs and a hawaldar for negligence and malpractices.

The police officials declined to register a case of dacoity that had taken place at a nearby textile mills some time back.

Meanwhile, DPO Dr Muhammad Shafiq transferred A-Division SHO Jamil Dogar and investigation cell in-charge Naveed Sikandar on a complaint and ordered them to report to police lines.

According to the complainant, the police officials had not registered his abduction case.
