KARACHI: MQM chief’s warning

Published November 8, 2006

KARACHI, Nov 7: Founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has asked the people to beware of what he called fake or pseudo maulvis who were trying to mislead people in the name of Islam.

He was speaking at an ideological moot of workers in Shah Faisal and Malir Colony late Monday night.

He said that the fake molvis ask the poor and innocent Muslims to lay down their lives for an imaginary "jihad", but they themselves stay away from the jehad.

Altaf Hussain recalled that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) led from the front, digging trenches, climbing the mountains to pray at the narrow "Ghar-i-Hira", and lived in discomfort. He practised what he preached.

Contrary to that, contemporary fake maulvis were presenting a distorted version of our religion in their sermons and are engaged in pitting brothers against brothers. They urge people to go for jihad in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan, but never allowed their kith and kins.
