Lord’s set for redevelopment

LONDON, Nov 4: Plans have been unveiled to redevelop Mound Stand at Lord's cricket ground in London and add state-of-art scoreboards and TV screens at a cost of more than 20 million pounds.

The MCC, which owns Lord's, aims to raise the money by launching a debenture scheme for spectators. Owners of debentures will have chance to buy tickets for games at famous old ground from 2007-2014.

The scheme covers seats in Grand and Mound Stands, and debentures will be priced between 8,000 and 12,000 pounds.

More than 50 million pounds has been spent on refurbishing famous London venue since 1987, including addition of a new media centre and indoor cricket school.

The latest plans will take spending on the ground to more than 75 million pounds. MCC aims to have scoreboards and screens in place for 2008 season and hopes work on Mound Stand will be completed ahead of 2012 Olympic Games, when Lord's will host archery competition.

Meanwhile, club says it is continuing to look into ways of expanding capacity at the ground.—Agencies
