KHAAR (Bajaur Agency), Nov 3: Protesters on Friday attacked several checkposts and set on fire a security post in Bajaur Agency where a complete strike was observed against Monday’s attack on a seminary.

Sources and eyewitnesses said that protest rallies were taken out across the agency as angry tribesmen blocked roads bringing life to a standstill. Bazaars and markets remained closed.

The Bajaur Agency All Parties Political Alliance had given a call for strike to protest against the attack which had left over 80 people dead and three others injured.

Big rallies were held in Khaar, the agency’s administrative headquarters, Derband, Loy Sam and Nawagai and protesters blocked the main highways with heavy boulders.

Angry mob pelted checkposts with stones in Loy Sam and Derband, while protesters set a security cabin of Levies in the Nawagai area on fire.

About 5,000 protesters, carrying black flags and banners set ablaze an effigy of Presi-dent George W. Bush and the Stars and Stripes in Inayat Kali and chanted slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) also staged a protest demonstration in Khaar. Addressing the rally, Akhunzada Chattan termed the attack on the seminary a barbaric act.

He alleged that the US wanted to destabilise the tribal areas and other parts of the country.

Maulana Ahmad Nawaz welcomed the resignation of MNAs and said that other parliamentarians should also follow suit.

He urged the government to compensate the families of the victims.
