KARACHI, Oct 18: The city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, on Thursday, asked the town Nazims to make written complaints in case any police officer refuses to cooperate with them.

“The police is duty-bound to cooperate with the elected representatives,” he said while addressing a joint meeting of the town Nazims and senior police officers at the City Government Secretariat here on Thursday.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Naib Nazim, Tariq Hasan, DIG Karachi, town Nazims, and other officials.

It was the first meeting of this type after the induction of the City Government, which was convened to discuss mutual liaison between police and elected representatives and each others’ grievances.

The city Nazim said that it was the responsibility of the elected representatives to solve the problems of the people. “Whether it is the issue of law and order or crimes in the city, we cannot sit silent,” he added.

He said though the town Nazims did not have powers in this regard, they should extend all possible cooperation to the police besides monitoring the police performance.

Naimatullah Khan said without the cooperation of the elected representatives, the police alone could not restore law and order and as such, the town Nazims should set up crime control committees, which should also include the notables, in their respective areas and maintain close contact with the police officials.

Naib Nazim, Tariq Hasan, said that law and order and the police performance would improve with better liaison between elected representatives and the police.—APP
