MITHI, Nov 1: The Bheels of the Dermoon village in Diplo taluka have appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of registration of two fake cases by the Diplo police, at the behest of a local influential man, against the Bheels of their village, 16 of whom have been arrested and were being tortured by police.

Speaking at a news conference here on Tuesday, Saroop Chand and Devo Bheel, the Dermoon village alleged that a heavy contingent of police raided their village three days ago and entered houses of Bheels and misbehaved with women and children, beat the menfolk, fired in the air and arrested 16 men and 20 women and beat and tortured them at the Diplo police station. The women were, however, released the following day.

The complaining Bheels further alleged that the arrest of Bheels and police torture had created harassment and about 30 houses had been vacated by Bheels and there was no one to provide treatment to seven Bheel women whose bread earners had been arrested.

They said that the whereabouts of four Bheels (among 16 arrested by police) are still not known and police had registered fake cases against 50 Bheels at the behest of a local influential wadera and a powerful Thakur.

The complaining Bheels have appealed the chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the excesses of police and to dispense just with the Bheels.
