WASHINGTON, Oct 29: Minister for Kashmir Affairs Tahir Iqbal has said that the Kashmir movement is not terrorism but a freedom movement and struggle to seek right to self-determination as pledged by UN.

Speaking at a seminar “Kashmir future perspectives”, which was organised by Kashmir American Council at George Washington University, he stressed that the three stakeholders — India, Pakistan and Kashmiris should resolve Kashmir dispute amicably.

He said that US could play pivotal role in the settlement of Kashmir problem. The international community should realise the situation in Kashmir as it has become a nuclear flashpoint.

Mohammad Aslam Khan, DCM, Pakistan embassy said peace could not be ensured in Kashmir due to presence of 700,000 Indian troops. People of Kashmir would get relief if Kashmir region was declared demilitarised zone. Pakistan had not made any shift from its principled stand on Kashmir issue, he said, adding:“We are ready to consider any option.” But participation of Kashmiris in dialogue is must, he stressed.—Online
