SIALKOT, Oct 28: Three nomads, including a woman, died after eating poisonous meat here on Saturday at Dhalleywali-Head Marala. Reports said beggar Kubra Bibi fetched some meat and invited her neighbours Muhammad Aslam (40) and Manzur Ahmad (35). They died after taking the meal.
Head Marala police are investigating.
BODIES NOT RECOVERED: Divers could not recover bodies of two youths who had drowned in Chenab on Friday evening at Kulluwal.
Reports said three cousins Abdul Ghafoor (17), Waqas (14) and Naveed (17) fell into the river owing to erosion near Dhool Pattan.
Body of Abdul Ghafoor has been recovered.
HOUSE LOOTED: Five dacoits looted the house of a trader in Pakpura locality here on Friday night.
Reports said bandits stormed into the house of Manzoor Ahmed, held the family members hostage at gunpoint and made off with diamonds, gold ornaments, cash, electronics and other valuables worth Rs3.5 million.
Civil lines police have registered a case with no arrest or recovery.
FJ varsity campus: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has finally approved setting up of a campus of Fatima Jinnah Women University, Islamabad, at Sialkot.
According to official sources, the campus would be set up in collaboration with the local business community. The process of selecting and acquiring land was in progress to start the campus.
They said the HEC would also open women university’s campuses at Murree, Nathia Gali and Chakri, as the HEC has already allocated Rs3 billion for the purpose.
They said the HEC’s aim was to give women a chance to get higher education at local level.
COMPENSATION: National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Husain has pledged early provision of financial compensation by the federal government to Bajwat’s poor paddy growers whose crops were affected due to the recent heavy rains.
He was talking to a delegation of Bajwat based growers who called on him here on Saturday.
