BAHAWALPUR, Oct 22: Saddar police failed to arrest those allegedly involved in gang-rape of an 11-year-old girl of Basti Bhattian even after the passage of a month.

At a press conference here on Sunday, the rape victim’s father, Gulzar Ahmed, flanked by office-bearers of an NGO and the UC nazim concerned, said that his daughter was going to her grandfather’s house when She was abducted by the accused, Muhammed Ashfaq and Fayyaz Ahmed with the help of a woman. They kept her in illegal confinement for several days and subjected her to gang-rape, he alleged.

He said the police concerned had not included the name of Azam in the FIR, who, he alleged was the actual culprit. He said the sessions court had ordered the arrest of culprits, but the police, instead, was forcing him for a compromise with the accused

UC 16 Nazim Jaffer Mahmood, former nazim Akhtar Abbasi and an area councillor said the police had yet not secured the victim’s medical examination report because some influential people were supporting the accused.

They demanded the president, prime minister, Punjab governor, and IG should intervene to provide justice to the victim. — Correspondent
